Overview

Cancún, with a population of 628,306 inhabitants, is a city that has evolved in the last few decades from a fisherman's island in the middle of the forest to a city of international tourism.  After hurricane Gilberto in 1988, the city was substantially reubilt and reverted from a classical grid urban plan to facilitate transportation.

As a major vacation destination, Cancún's retail market has developed into a series of upscale malls and designer boutiques for tourists, along with modern shopping malls for the local population.  Cancún is a primary retail market, given its population size and location.  Most of the families of Cancún fall in low to middle class income brackets.
